Wisdom tooth removal is a very common surgical procedure that is generally done because the jaws do not have adequate space for the wisdom tooth or teeth, which erupt between the ages of 16-23 based upon gender and genetic growth spurts. The problems include; gum swelling and gum infection, decay of adjacent teeth, decay, pain & infection of the wisdom tooth itself as a result of food accumulation, & in seldom cases cyst formation.
